THE wickcouture WAY

Melt

1. MELT

Objective: Safely melt the wax until fully liquified.

  • Choose Your Wax: Soy, paraffin, beeswax, coconut, or a blend.
  • Measure the Wax: Weigh out the desired amount based on your vessel size (account for shrinkage).
  • Heat the Wax: Use a double boiler or wax melter.
    • Temperature Target: Typically 170–185°F (depending on wax type).
  • Add Fragrance (Optional):
    • Add at the recommended temperature for your wax (often 175°F for soy).
    • Stir gently for 1–2 minutes for full integration.

Match

2. MATCH

Objective: Prepare and match the vessel with proper components.

  • Select the Vessel: Glass jars, tins, or ceramics—ensure they’re heat-safe.
  • Wick Matching:
    • Choose the correct wick size/type for the vessel diameter and wax type.
    • Attach the wick centered at the base using a wick sticker or glue dot.
  • Preheat the Vessel (Optional): Reduces frosting and promotes smooth tops.
    • You can pre-warm slightly with a heat gun or warm oven (watch temperature!).

Pour

3. POUR

Objective: Fill vessels safely and cleanly with melted wax.

  • Ideal Pour Temp: Usually 135–145°F for soy wax (varies by type).
  • Steady Pour:
    • Pour slowly and carefully to avoid bubbles and spills.
    • Secure the wick upright using a wick holder or centering tool.
  • Top-Off (if needed):
    • After cooling, top off with a bit of wax to smooth surface if sinkholes occur.

Store

4. STORE

Objective: Let candles cure and stabilize for optimal performance.

  • Cool Down: Let candles cool at room temp, away from drafts and movement.
  • Curing Time:
    • Soy candles: Cure 1–2 weeks for best scent throw.
    • Paraffin: 48–72 hours is often sufficient.
  • Label & Test:
    • Label with scent, batch info, and safety instructions.
    • Test burn to ensure proper wick, melt pool, and performance.
